  • The Lakes Region is one of New Hampshire's most popular vacation destinations. Focused around the state's largest lake, Lake Winnipesauke, the area draws watercraft enthusiasts from everywhere. Boating, sailboarding, and swimming are not the only attractions. Numerous parks and hiking trails dot the area. The Loon Preservation Committee, located in Meredith, on the northern shore of the Lake, coordinate the efforts to preserve this emblem of wilderness, the common loon.

For the less wilderness-inclined, there are numerous shopping areas throughout the region. Racing enthusiasts will find a full complement of races at the New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon.

Historic properties abound in Wolfeboro, the oldest resort town in America. While you are there, get on the Mount Washington, a turn of the century ship which tours the Lake. You can visit Alton Bay, on the southernmost tip, Weirs Beach, with its amusement arcades on the west side, and Meredith with its shops in the north, before returning to Wolfeboro. Dinner & dancing is available many evenings.

No visit is complete without stopping by Castle in the Clouds, an historic estate built on the top of a mountain overlooking the lake. A true castle, they offer an unique dining experience. Many other fine dining establishments may be found throughout the region.
