We planed on rain and of course the weather didn't cooperate, by the time we changed our plans and decided to go for it, it was late afternoon!
The day began with a glance at the Halifax Herald. Our smiling faces and a story in the computing section of the paper felt a bit odd. After a hunter-size breakfast we got down to business and updated the journal.
We had expected it to rain all day but the forecast was wrong. We headed North to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park hoping to make it to Bay St. Lawrence before the rain. Like so many of our attempts of day hikes in NH, we couldn't seem to get out of our own way. We arrived at our destination at 5pm with an hour to hike and two hours to return for dinner reservations. We made the best of it but didn't make it to Money Point.
Wildlife: an eagle flew low and over the car on our way north, on the way back we saw two moose. Moose # 1, after coming around a blind corner ( if we had been a little earlier we probably would have hit it ), and another walking into the barrens on a long straight stretch. The goal for the day - spotting whales from the coast, was achieved at dusk as we approached Cap Rouge. All in all a great day with a late start!
Rugged bay on the northern tip of Cape Breton. A dramatic view, even more so with the low clouds and patches of sunlight in the bay.
