Drive out to Cape Split and hike, if the rain clears !
The forecast for Wednesday was even gloomier so we took our chances and headed for Cape Split. We had read that the coastal trail at Cape Split was more interesting and also more difficult and dangerous - just fine for us! We zig-zaged around solid rock shoreline, stony coves and flume like gorges. The gorges formed impassable obstacle forcing us back into the woods in search of the trail. This went on for hours, the rock features getting bigger and more intense as we worked our way up the Cape. We finally made it to the very end where we encountered the largest cove yet and huge cliffs. If we had headed strait to the end on the easy path we could have easily spent all day here. It was two hours before the tide would turn, you could see and hear the tide rushing out of the Minas basin. We were not prepared, hungry and out of water (we had expected it to rain) we reluctantly hiked out and drove back to hot meal in Wolfville.
Last shot taken from the shore. From here it would have been a difficult climb down 50 feet into the cove. This cove was about 1/4 mile wide and completely surrounded by cliffs. Backtracking, the only way out would have been cut off by the rising tide.
