We found this hotel on the web, you can make reservations on-line and get a weekend rate of $89 Canadian, a good rate for a 4+ star hotel. The service has been great and the location puts you in walking distance to most of old Halifax.
Sort of a cross between fried dough and egg-mac-muffin, YUM !
This WWII corvette has been restored to it 1944 condition. These boats were used in the batltle of the Atlantic as escorts and sub killers for the supply shipping to England.
It is now a floating naval memorial, you can tour the boat and get a good sense of life on ship. It is hard to imagine spending months in the north Atlantic on this vessel.
Loud and cramped, oil fired steam boilers for a max speed of 16 knots, a lot of Canadian rail men joined the navy because of their experience with steam power. In order to go in reverse, the engine had to be stoped and restarted in the oppsite direction.
This is part of the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. Tomorrow we will go to the museum and tour this ship.
Closed on Mondays, we may visit here tomorrow.
High on the hill above Halifax, this site is full of history with lots going on. We spent about an hour here - not realy enough time.
A jail during peacetime, guns could be fired from here into the ditch surounding the Citadel if under attack.
Functioned as the barracks for 400+ soldiers. Now houses a museum and canteen.
View from the Citadel
There was unbelivable number of birds at the public gardens. Feeding the birds seems to be a favorite passtime of Haligonians, young and old. They were so thick you had to wade through them - starlings, pigeons and ducks.
AT the center of the 17 acres of formal gardens and duck ponds sits this centerpiece. I wonder how many weddings take place here. Snapped a real photo for Mom.
This park is undoubtedly the pride and pleasure of the city. This formal Victorian garden is lush with color, old trees and ornamental shrubs. Great to people watch.
This little wooden chapel was built in one day in 1843. How could we resist? Sounds like quite a work party.
