We had breakfast in the room, Rosanne told the dining staff that I had threatened to come down to breakfast in my pajamas.
This is the few of the Minas basin from our hotel room. Looks like it's going to be a gray day.
Our last full day in Nova Scotia begins with a drive to Digby. The weather was overcast but not raining, a good time to get some driving done.
We were making good time on highway 101, so we took a short break at Bridgeton. A very nicely restored historic property.
This church is another of the older buildings in Bridgeton. This towns main street has many restored and well tended houses to admire.
Next town was Digby and it looked like we were going to make it there before 2:00 pm. And then the steam started comig out from under the hood - I checked the temperature gage and it was pegged !
Rosanne spotted the fan belt lying on the stone sheild under the radiator.
"I saw you poking at the engine with a stick and figured you were having trouble" - I was half-heartedly trying to slip the remains of the fan belt back on. The belt had started coming apart, but had not broken it just came off.
D.R. Dave Duggan was nice enough to drive us to Digby and take us to sevice stations untill we found one that could help - Thanks Dave ! Dave works for Fish and Game Dept. and told us about the scallop conflict in Digby.
The guys at the garage were to busy to drive out and replace the belt on the highway - so we had to have the car towed in. On the ride we got the second story about the scallop contraversy in Digby.
Down hearted, worring about warped heads or worse, we left the shop and walked downtown. This is the busy warf at low tide. We saw several boats coming and going.
We were stranded in Digby, and the weather had taken a turn for the better. I had hopped to be exploring Long Island and Brier Island this afternoon. We tried to make the best of the situation.
We walked back and the car was running. Wayne had found a belt from a truck supply place that was only 1/10 of inch bigger. The total cost for repair was $35.50 Canadian. If you need help near Digby, stop at the Montague street Irving station !
Only four hours time lost and we were back on the road to Sandy cove - things worked out real well.
We checked into our room and then continued west for Brier Island. We had enough time to catch the sunset if we were lucky.
The books said that is was a 1/2 mile walk to the Balancing Rock. Pictures of this rock are all over the place so we had to stop. They have recently upgraded the path, complete with elaborate stairs down the cliff.
Well here we are, the Balancing rock, wow.
We were on the look out for this place for Shery Young. We didn't get to stop as we were running out of time to catch the sunset and we still had one more ferry to go.
Rosanne attempts to fly into the sunset at Brier Island.
Our last full day had it's ups and downs but turned out pretty good. After the sunset we had the best seafood of the whole trip at the Brier Island Lodge in Westport. I had the Smoked fish dinner and Rosanne had pan-fried haddock.
